MDA holds a special place in my heart, especially the summer camp. This was my tenth year as a counselor. A couple of very good friends of mine from college and my wife talked me into it after years of encouragement. For some reason I was scared that I wouldn't do a good job. I finally came for a week and loved every minute of it. Now I'm hooked for life.

It's amazing how rewarding it is to be a involved with such a great group of people. At the beginning of the camp week faces are filled with joy; some are filled with sorrow. A few of the kids don't have a great life outside of camp which is why camp is so important to them. By the middle of the week everyone has become accustomed to their surroundings and are really having a good time. Eventually the week ends and almost all of the kids are sad to leave. The countdown begins: 51 weeks left.

I have made many friends at camp; mostly with campers. Throughout the majority of the year, many of us hang out online either at or on AIM. Every now and then I'm able to see some of them in person after camp ends and that's always a fun experience.
